Full day prospecting
I spent the whole day out in the woods today. Cloudy, chilly and drizzling rain most of the day - but no guts no glory, right? ;-)
I brought the whole prospecting kit, the trunk of the 4wd SUV was full of stuff but I "only" used the Goldspear. I thought I would find a "good" spot and then bring in the rest of the equipment. But finding gold wasn't easy today, guess that's why gold is expensive :-)
I started out in a creek where I have been before and man was it flooded. I spent quite a while probing the banks with the Goldspear without any gold signals. But further downstream I did hit a small spot where I got good repeatable signals. But it was a long walk from the car and that location did not have any suitable spot to setup the sluice in so I memorized the spot and moved further downstream. After a while I moved back upstream again and sure enough I got steady gold signals in that small spot again. But it was still a long hike back to the car, and it was at least two feet down in the bank... I save a waypoint in my GPS and told myself I would return some day.
I kept on prospecting using the Goldspear, both in "known" creeks and "new" but I did not find one single spot with gold during the rest of the day... Not even in this lovely creek, look at that gravel bottom :-)
But I had a great day out even though it was drizzling most of the day, saw forrest birds, heard the first cuckoo of the summer, saw lot's of moose droppings, a small deer and a flock of reindeers plus a big bird of prey. And I got a good workout, but it was a bit disapointing not finding any gold :-)
I also got the opportunity to test the Toyota's terrain driving capabilities as a smal patch of one of the roads had been swept away by the spring flood - no problems what so ever - sweet car.
