GOLD(!)

Wow, today was another nice sunny day so we took the 4wd out for a spin. Of course we "accidently" stumbled upon a few new streams :-)

After a jummy lunch with heering sandwiches in the sun I brought out the Goldspear and went for a walkabout with that in my right hand. I slowly worked myself downstream and at the mouth of a smaller creek that flowed into the larger stream I got a few "gold signals"(!). Now it was hard to reproduce these signals but I moved upstream into the smaller creek (maybe 3-4' wide) and wow - I managed quite quickly find a spot where I more or less constantly got "gold signals" from the Goldspear.

-What is this, I thought to myself?

Well, I moved upstream a bit after marking this spot with a small peice of a tree branch and then started detecting back downstream and when I hit that spot again: BEEEP BEEP BEEEEP, there it was again. "Gold signals" more or less every time I probed this small spot (maybe a foot across).

So I went back to the car and fetched my henderson pump and a bucket. 45 minutes later I had managed to get about a pound of gravel and pebbles. I brought this home and after panning it I found a few really small and one not that small speck that looked promising. And look at that, after peering at 'em through my 10x loupe I can say that I have found me some gold!

Not any huge nugget, but at least one of 'em is clearly visible to the naked eye. Cool stuff :-)

Tried the Goldspear for the first time

The sun was shining today so me and my girl friend went out on a small excursion. I brought my newly aquired Goldspear and tried it in a few spots. Now I could not detect any gold but it is still a lot of snow up here and the stream beads are covered in ice in most places.

But I got to have a look in a few new spots where I have planned to go this summer. Unf. one of the roads was in a really poor shape and even though we were driving our new 4wd SUV we decided to turn back.

It was interesting to try the Goldspear for the first time, as I mentioned I did not detect any gold but I realized that it is a bit hard to hear the signals - and I had somewhat of a problem seeing the LED lights but my color seeing is not the best.

But I hope this will be a great tool for summer prospecting.

Bought a Goldspear gold detector

I have bought a used Goldspear gold detector, will be interesting to see how it works. Still a lot of snow up here so there will be some weeks before I can start prospecting again.
